Default Looking for some pictures - Light Horse Badges

Hi Guys,

I'm currently working on a Light Horse ebook (more details will be posted on the forum very soon) but I need a couple of pictures to complete it.

Can anyone help me with a hi res picture of a pair of 18th Light Horse (Adelaide Lancers) collar badges and also of an opposing pair of 2nd Armoured Car Regiment collar badges? Both 1930-42 period.

Will be happy to give a free copy of the ebook in return (when it's completed).

Regards,

Mick

Good luck in your search for photos of those badges you need to complete your book. I am sorry that I am not able to assist with any.

Here is a question though. Quite some time ago you posted a lovely photograph of an 18th ALH (Adelaide Lancers) trooper from the 1930/40s period. In that photograph, to my old eyes, the cap and collar badges appear to be the same size. I presume that they are all collar badges as I can't imagine someone wearing cap sized badges on their collar. Other references show them as being distinctly different sizes.

Unless it is an illusion created by the photograph is there a reason for that? Were they commonly worn that way or is it just because of the style of cap that he is wearing....just as collar size rising sun badges are frequently worn on similar style caps.

No worries mate.

I'll have to check it out and have a closer look.

But to answer your question, it could well be a collar badge. I do know that some regiments wore collar badges on peak caps.

I know that some NSW Lancers officers did wear their collar badge on their peak caps around 1940.

Looks like another task will be to identify which Light Horse regiments during that period wore peak caps and if only just officers or ORs or both wore them?

Since you are writing a book which obviously involves hat and collar badges, I thought it might have been an interesting observation, perhaps worthy of mention or inclusion so that we poor novice collectors get the whole picture.

I hope the book goes well.

It's more of a collector's guide rather than a full blown book - it will be an ebook that will be available for purchase and download from Regimental Books and Amazon.com. It won't be available as a physical book.

I plan to produce a series of them about Australian badges.

I'm hoping to have this one one out for November/December.

Smile Re 18th Light Horse

g'day Mick

I have a cap and 2 collar set forthe 18th LH, its in a Light Horse display at the Upwey Belgrave RSL in Melb where Im a volunteer at their museum.

How soon do you need it ?

I can take them out next week as I would like them to be there for Rememberance Day. If there is no hurry I can do the photos when I take the display down in a few weeks.

I now have a 12.1 megapixel camera so will have no trouble doing the hi res photos.

Drop me an email or post a reply here.

Sorry I cant help with the others.

Regards

Phil.

Thanks mate.

I think I might be good for these now.

What other Light Horse badges do they have? I am looking for some pictures of 1900-12 and 1912-18 period badges.

I have an 18 ALH (WAMI) hat badge, no collars, though (I wish I had) if that is any use to you for the 1900-1912 period.............but, then, I think you did post one of those in one of your albums or on the forum one time.
