Smile 2nd King Edward's Horse

Hi all,

A nice pick up for my King's Colonials, King Edward's Horse and 2nd King Edward's Horse collection a postcard from France of an Officer, NCOs and Other Ranks of 2KEH 1915-17. If anyone can help me with the rank of the figure (is that a crown on both sleeves so is he a Major but wearing GM headdress badge and collars to the left of the Officer (2nd Lieut? one pip rather than a crown on rank panel on sleeve) who is wearing the OSD version of the headdress badge and no collar badges. The figure to the left and Sergeant to the right of the Officer are wearing medal ribbons I haven't determined what they are as of yet - assistance appreciated, cheers Dean.

Super photograph, I would have said your figure is a warrant officer with gm crowns and cap badge, I would think there are a few South Africa veterans amongst the group.

Great Photograph, it looks like there was snow on the ground by the two men on their elbows, the RH one is on a sack or blanket.

Yes I’d say the one to the left is SM given the style of his uniform and badges.

Thanks Frank, Rob and Michael that all makes good sense.

Unlike King Edward’s Horse I have few named 2 KEH pictures to try and identify individuals.

Cheers Dean

The man on the left, wearing a cap cover and holding the dog, appears to be ASC. The man third from the left at the rear could be as well.

Thanks Hoot - the chap holding the dog is 2KEH but the chap in the back row is 16th Lancers. Might provide a clue as to when it was taken if they were serving alongside each other perhaps - winter 1915,16 or 17 with the snow on the ground. Shall check my notes, cheers Dean

Well there is no sign of a steel helmet anywhere, so I would think the winter of 1915-16 is a good possibility when the photo was taken.

Thanks Rob that is a good point - appreciate that.

I think the Sergeant to the right of the Officer is wearing a DCM ribbon, cheers Dean.
