Royal Hampshire Slip-on Company Titles
Can anybody educate me on the titles shown in the attached image please?
As far as I know they were adopted by the regiment in Malaya in the 1950s although based on earlier plain coloured slip-ons worn in WW2 to indicate individual companies in the Bns. There seem to be several variations in their manufacture/lettering style and I seem to remember that they continued to be worn, possibly on the woolly pully for some years. I also wondered if they are covered in Terence Woods Military Insignia of Hampshire books. All help appreciated. Jon |

I saw similar titles being worn members of 1 R Hampshires in Singapore in 1966 - but foolishly did not take notes. Mike

Hi Jon,
Not seen before either, i think Mike might have the answer, material and quality gives reason to suspect 'Tropical Uniform', or maybe 'whites' still used by the band today. Regards Mark |

I did spot some examples on the Minden Militaria website so Rod may be able to shed some more light. Not my thing so can only repeat what I read there: Worn in Malaya / HK by the different Coys then the Platoons when reduced to Coy strength in 1970.
Apparently it is in the Woods book on p.36. Found in both woven and printed types. White trim – HQ Coy / Comd Pl Green trim – A Coy / A Pl Red trim – Y Coy / Y Pl Blue trim – Z (Support) Coy / Z Pl Yellow trim – B Coy / Admin Pl |

Hampshire Slip On Titles
These were worn in 1974/5 when the Battalion was in Hong Kong; a different colour for each coy. White is HQ Coy.
