Officers 1878 Pattern Blue Cloth Helmet (Sherwood Foresters)
From my collection is this Victorian Officer's 1878 Pattern Home Service Blue Cloth Helmet, complete with its named carrying/storage tin belonging to Cyril Randall Crofton-Atkins. He was 2/Lt The Sherwood Foresters, 1887, Lt 1889, Captain 1893, Brevet Major 1900, Major, 1905, Lt/Col 2nd Battalion The Sherwood Foresters 1914 and later became Brigadier General, D.A.A.G. Mounted Infantry Corps in 1900, Recruiting Staff Officer 1910, Brigade Commander 12th Reserve Infantry Brigade 1916. Officer Commanding number 5A District in 1918. Served in the operations in Sierra Leone, 1898-99 in the Great War C.B.E. Died 1941.
