Default Sussex 5th Bn Cap badge

I have been after a 5th Bn Sussex regt cap badge for a while and have a question about construction. I have seen some with a 2 part consruction with the central shield overlaid despite the fact that they are an all brass badge.

I know that Taxicar19 sells one piece lugged repro ones on ebay but this type are different.

Does anyone know if the 2 part ones are considered OK? It does seem an odd way to fake a badge if they are copies?

It's a badge that's really bothers me too. I have one where the central shield sticks out a long way and appears to be overlaid for no apparent reason, however there are no sweatholes or pins attaching it.

Also I have another lugged w/m version which brings me onto another question. Does anyone know what the 3rd Cinque Ports VB badge was ? I believe it was w/m but did the scroll differ from the 5th Btn version ? To me it feels and looks like the better badge of the two.

Attached both below.

This is my one. It appears identical to yours including the rather rough detail to the reverse of the scroll.

This one is on ebay. Again the same traits. I have bought badges from the selle before and he is very good.

Any thoughts on this one?

When the WO took over the provision of TF badges in 1915 the 5th Sussex was listed as all GM (AO 1st Aug 1916). Need to look at original listings at Kew to see if there is any mention of how many pieces it was constructed of.

This is mine - die stamped, one piece, slider. Had it about 30 years or more but not sure if it is a re-strike. A very strong badge with crisp details at the rear and the slider is slightly tapered.

Opinions as to whether it is genuine or not please.

Cheers
Chris

It certainly looks OK from the picture. The ebay cab driver does a rubbish lugged fake.

The one I showed earlier is currently going for £22 so 2 people believe that is is genuine.
