It does look like it has been buried which has dirtied it and 'aged' it. DLI badges have been almost perfectly faked.

thanks for the replies alan and frenchy.
i know there are many restrikes out there and lots of good and bad fakes/copies, whatever they get called, but what is a genuine DLI worth? faking badges that are not rare or expensive doesnt make sense to me. or am i missing something?

Regarding the aging of the opening post badge - it has the same uneven look as the badges in this thread. This is quite common.

my theory is that this is chemical applied and the unevenness is due to the faker not degreasing the badge properly before dipping in the solution. Some patches on the leinster badge even have a bubby/droplet appearance.

You can get a real one for about £5. A fake will cost you the same from a restrike dealer.

Lets see what this one goes for:

hello badgecollector

Anothe opinion from France!!!!!
The badge you showed is a fake

Look at the long lug of the "Adminstrator one" no rust
the "white metal " is so dull,
Compare with Jean-pit one the engravong details so after you could make your opinion

Collecting ask patience and study
Take courage
