Default King's Own Scottish Borderers ,seen This Before

The first picture is a real KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS .
The second and third I haven't seen before .
Notice the top of the badge where there is supposed to be leaves coming from the cross to the crown . Also the flag in the middle is slightly solid on the left . Is this a fake or a different cast ?

Smile KOSB badge

This badge looks to be the same pattern as the 1902-14 Helmet Plate Centre which should be 77mm high. The reverse has two loops, one of which seems to have been lead soldered. The HPC should have four loops which are a different variety to the two loops on this badge. There does not appear to have been any other loops which could have broken off previous.
The badge to me is a mystery, is it a reject HPC, due to a bad strike to the left of the flag that has had two cap badge loops attached?
or is it a different strike?
Measure the height and give us a clue . . !

Hi
It's 77mm high and I can also see no other sign of attachments on the rear.

Smile KOSB badge

Well 77mm high, it sounds like a helmet plate (1902-14) that was made into a cap badge by putting two loops on instead of four. Possibly made 1914-18 for the increase in Btn's (12) to save time and money, the badge looks ok to me, but pictures are no substitute for handling a badge.

It's very hard for me to judge as I don't have another one to compare . What I can say is you can't bend it and it seems to have been worn and polished so hopefully as you say it is a good one .
Many Thanks
Spencer

Hi,
the badge you show is the usual larger pattern(always seems to be the 2 types) that occurs with most early KOSB...as an HPC with KC ,and as a cap with both VC & KC (possibly using the HP die here) Appears to be generally of WW1 ( & prior) period issue.
Refer to K&K 628 for the identical item ,complete with Lion's tail & centre flag solid supports.
Hope this helps ?
Cheers !
Steve
