Default Blurry collar badge

Good evening from New Zealand!

I've just purchased a mourning brooch with a WW1 soldiers photo. Presuming the fellow is a New Zealander, but possibly not. Wondering if anyone may be able to help me in my quest to find out about him.

Here is a blog post i've just completed.

Any help much appreciated!!!

Cheers
Sarndra

Hi Sarndra,
Thanks for posting your query, an interesting item.
The collar badge looking circular and fairly solid, my guess is it's for the 15th (North Auckland) Regiment. Google this for information.
Cheers,
Tinto

I reckon its a bronze rose... but its not easy to say really.

The photo needs to be removed carefully from the locket and scanned on a high res.

Hi Griff,
The wonders of technology! You may be right, could be a rose.

A number of WWI US collar dogs are circular in shape, that is if he was not certainly a Kiwi.

Tinto thank you so much! That's a great start to consider - and you're right it does look very much like the 15th Regiment badge.

I will have a look at the badges we have [I work at Auckland War Memorial Museum]. Shame the badge is so blurry in the photo.

Cheers

Thanks!

Yes I took it to work today and looked at it under the snazzy Leica microscope in our conservation department ...unfortunately it looks the same... no clarity at all, but very interesting seeing the dirt and finer details on the brooch! Very frustrating all round though!

Cheers

Hi Sarndra,
Thanks for your comments.
I further enlarged the image you posted and I could make out a very faint 15 in centre. Whether that was my imagination is open to question!
Cheers, Tinto
