Just seen Don has answered, I was going to chip in with:
Didn’t the title change to Royal Newfoundland in 1949? Given its ‘Newfoundland’ on this badge I’d have thought pre that date... or at least made for personnel who has served in the regiment before the Royal title was granted. |

The Newfoundland Regiment was granted the Royal distinction during the First World War. That regiment ceased to exist after the war. During the Second WW, Newfoundland contributed personnel to form units in the RA, and and there were home defence regiments. These did not have the Royal honour. The infantry regiment, the Royal Newfoundland Regiment was authorized in 1949 when Newfoundland joined the Canadian Confederation.
