Hello,

This cap badge is not for No4 Commando, but for the 1st BFMC ... 1er Bataillon de Fusiliers Marins Commandos, Free French Navy.

Difficult to be sure without having them in hands ... but they look fine.

I don't know who is the happy owner, but it seems he needs money ...

Best regards .. Herve

I concur that the badges look genuine - there are tell-tale signs to look for, which are present in the examples illustrated. Quite rightly these signs are not noted or discussed as fakers would become aware of them.
The No.5 Cdo title has not been discussed above, but is also of fairly well known genuine construction - although a little discoloured at the back. As this badge is not very expensive it is not a problem to disclose the threads to the reverse of the badge provide assurance.

These badges look genuine, indeed. It seems they were discussed on the forum a few years ago as Paul (Belly) told me.
Badge #284 was attributed to Marcel Gannat for replacing his previous badge #86 which was lost. Miraculously, it looks like it was found…
Gannat was with Troop 8 and he did landed on D-Day.
The other one (#122) is more intriguing: to Gaston Pourcelot who was part of the Gravelines raid under the command of Pierre Wallerand on Christmas Eve 1943. The raid failed and Wallerand died and the others tried to escape from the Germans. Pourcelot was arrested in Lyon and deported to Buchenwald. He was eventually liberated and came back to London in July 1945. The badge was possibly attributed at that time.

More likely he gave it to his sweetheart!
