Hi Keith,
I believe that the arty collars with felt backing were worn on the "greens" uniform. As for the Zim arty, sorry, but I have no idea of their uniforms. Regards, Dave |

Here are the pictures of the aluminium RAR badge. It appears to be stamped out with the lower portion around the scroll fretted out. Looped lugs very similar to those used on Reuteler badges.

Hi Keith,
Sorry, tried to reply, but seem to have had a problem. The Rhodesian arty collars were probably worn on the "greens" uniform, most likely by regular army soldiers. Regards, Dave |

Hi Steven
I'm sure that must have been a sample badge. Nice though. Cheers, Alex |

Thanks Alex,
It appears to be almost the same in design to the Reuteler white metal version, so probably came out of the same die. Cheers Steven Last edited by Milmed; 29-05-17 at 02:39 PM. |

I'm open to correction, but as far as I am aware that all of the Reutler badges were die cut (punched out) and not cast. I know that some cast badges started to be made when Rhodesia was becoming Zimbabwe.

Hi Dave,
I'm sure you are 100% correct. Have changed my wording in previous post. Steven |

That will probably become a 'holy grail' for dedicated Rhodie collectors now

This is a great find & must be very rare. Love all the variations. I also have several variations of the silver & white metal (& chrome) RAR cap & collar badges.

For interest. The chromed RAR badges were only worn by the band. Have attached a chart built some time ago of the ones I have, for interest.

There is also a sheet metal version made by Keay's the Jewellers of Salisbury during WW2.

Very nicely layed out Dudley & some great badges. I was most fortunate to get one of the Keays RAR badges.

Just added anouther RAR to the small collection. This one was told was WWII issue. It looks silver and similar in manufacture to Keays badges. Is someone able to confirm that it is a Keays RAR badge.

I am of the opinion that your badge is a 1960s Matthews made type. The WW2 badges were made from thin sheet metal by Keays until the first Firmin made ones were issued. Kind regards. Dudley
