Default Officer's Rank Crown.

Whilst I have seen this style of crown on a British Army cap badge before, notably a variant of the East Surrey Regiment cap badge, I have not seen one used as a rank badge before. Can anyone enlighten me as to when and where it was used and by whom?

It is approximately the same size as a conventional crown of the type worn between 1902 and 1952.

Thank you.

Colin Churchill has something similar down as a collar badge possibly worn by the 19th foot, fig 559?

Many thanks. The badge is certainly similar to the one supposedly worn by the Green Howards post 1875.

Default Life Guards rank crown

That style of Tudor crown in metal was and still is worn by officers of the Life Guards on khaki Service Dress. Here are embroidered examples on slip on rank slides. Examples in metal are bottom right of the photo.

It's similar to the collar badge worn by the Devonshire Regiment 1874-78, Churchill figure 333, but the illustration is slightly more curved and with more jewels in the arches.
