WOMEN IN CANADIAN WWI UNIFORMS
A bit of a teaser title as it is women in First World War uniforms - just not their own. I couldn't resist sharing this when I saw it came up in the database update pile last week in the museum. There is writing in French on the reverse but that is obscured by dollops of glue that we are going to try to remove in order to get an idea why these ladies were playing "dress up".
I find it interesting that the lady with the 22nd Bn hat is in a 25th Bn tunic while the other lady has the 25th Bn hat and that they have a pair of 22 Bn collar badges that they have shared. |

Great photo Gary. Good detail on the patches and insignia. The background to the image would be interesting.

I have a few similar photos, including a group of about five in army, navy, marine, RFC uniforms.
I think they're liable to be girls wearing their brothers & boyfriends uniforms, tho' I wouldn' t put it past an enterprising photographer to produce photos as a novelty. I have a photo of a young girl wearing a WWII Luftwaffe uniform, a member of German royalty in WWI hussar uniform,, & a number of comic cartoon cards portraying women in soldiers uniforms. |

I've seen a lot of German Wehrmacht era photos like this as well - girlfriends or wives dress in their beau's uniforms for a photo.

Several women in sweetheart's uniforms
See marksrussianmilitaryhistory for the better half of a Scots Guardsman. Several other examples of women in uniform on this site, too.
