Without quoting chapter and verse from Sainsbury's book I shall try to summarize.

In 1918 there was the 3rd to the 14th Herts cadets plus 1st and 2nd St Albans cadet battalions Church Lads Brigade.

Various fates befell these units. Some were disbanded. The 8th became an OTC.[St Edmund's college,Ware]
The 10th Herts cadets were a Boys Brigade unit. [1st Barnet]. In 1924 as per national policy the Boys Brigade withdrew all its units from the cadet movement.

By 1924 all that was left was the 3rd,9th,11th,13th,15th,1st and 2nd Cdt Bn CLB.

By 1929 they were down to the 9th [Herts Reformatory school] and 11th [Royal Masonic school] and the 2nd St Albans cadet battalion CLB.

The 9th were wearing Hertfordshire Regiment insignia and the 11th were wearing the insignia of the London Rifle Brigade cadets. In 1930 they lost their affiliations to their parent regiments and adopted the badge which is the subject of this thread. Interestingly there was also a button with a similar Hart but without title scroll.
In 1932 affiliations were resumed with a return to the original badges.

Graham.
