Gents, whilst I fully appreciate that the attached is neither British or a badge (but a medal), I thought I'd put out there as it's another oddment that's been in my possession for ages and cannot identify it. There is Arabic (I think) thereon, but I cannot seem to identify the 'coat of arms' motif, which would give a Nationality start point.

Any help gratefully received chaps.

Regards all

Bess

I believe the coat of arms is for the Shah of Iran (Persia) so the language maybe Farsi rather than Arabic.

Thanks Dave - Iran or Iraq must have been the only countries I had dismissed because of the coat of arms. However you quite right, they are:-

'Imperial Coat of Arms of Iran under the Pahlavi Dynasty, used from 1925 to 1979'.

So now have a country and era to work with.

Many thanks Dave

It may have some connection to the 2,500 year celebration of the Persian Empire , which consisted of an elaborate set of festivities that took place on 12–16 October 1971 to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Imperial State of Iran and the Achaemenid Empire by Cyrus the Great.

Photo is the emblem of the celebrations and appeared on numerous coins and medals.

Thanks Mike, you're spot on I reckon.

The device of the 'Cyrus cylinder' is on the medal as you say. So I would suggest a cultural/celebratory medal of some sort for the anniversary of the empire. I'll post if I identify the medal specifically.

Many thanks gentlemen for your observations.

Regards all

Bess
