Agreed, that is around the distance from Newcastle, no Burnhopefield and Burnfield is in Aberdeenshire.

Thanks for the info/interest gents. He was a pre war miner and looks a strong faced chap. His pension for the wound to his shoulder looks to have gone no further than 1922- he was 83 when he died. Very good, it's certainly a shame that everything was not sold together.

I agree Frank. As I understand on buying the medals the badge was mentioned but the medal buyer did not want it as no definite evidence to prove the badge was that of the man. Interesting point of view.
Thus giving me the chance to buy it now for £30 a badge that in normal circumstances would be more than I would like to pay.
It is also only my 2nd Great War badge linked to a name, as I am happy it belonged to William Guy. Regards, Paul.

Well, I'd certainly be very happy with it, what you often find is that medal collectors don't want to pay the extra monies for badges, in particular, scarce ones.
Never mind, you could see if the owner of the medals wants to part with them, perhaps not, but, does not hurt to ask.
