Roy,

Thank you very much for posting the picture.

The debate I often hear is one group of collectors want mint unissued items and others want the battle worn/used pieces that have seen action. In the case of the V-42 knife, it appears the unissued condition demands the dollars.

Cheers

Hi,

I find collectors are as diverse in their views as the knives they collect. Some prefer mint/unused examples, others knives with history or provenance while others well used 'been there' examples.

I don't think there is a right or wrong way to approach the topic, it's whatever interests you.

My advice is to always by the knife that speaks to you personally.

From experience I have noted that mint knives command the highest value, closely followed by knives with genuine provenance.

A good example of the latter is this F-S First Pattern belonging to a member of the Darby's Rangers I acquired from the family earlier this year and subsequently sold.

Cheerio,

Roy

P.s. sorry to take this thread off track a little.

Truly outstanding knives, Roy!

In the interest of showing the other side of the street, here are two original V-42s I have purchased over the years. Both well worn and both sadly lacking provenance, but the price of admittance was much much lower...

Hi Roy
Great collection with provenance. I would also add that looking at the 1st Ranger Bn scroll, would be an earlier English made example.

At this years SOS a very nice numbered V42 with a full length scabbard for $3,500.00. Another mint example sold for $5,000.00 at the show as well, so there are nice ones out there to be had for reasonable prices. Regards, Grant
