Default Manchester Volunteers at Camp

A nice evocative image made even better by the cloth arm title worn by one soldier.

Amazing photo. Makes you wonder how many were mill lads who were happy to have two weeks paid leave out doors

Probably very few. The 2nd VB were considered very elite and recruited many middle class men into their ranks as well as host of warehousemen from the City Centre their HQ being very close to it.

regards.

Ah1 thank you. So rather like Reg Glenn's Sheffield Pals mob, buns and pocket watches.

an interesting mix of headress. The VB seemed to have largely ignored the Brodrick which the regulars wore from 1903/04 and kept the FSC.

The photo is likely to be post 1902 and pre 1908. Hard to date by the hats as the VB/TF did their own thing with dress!
