They were in Rawal Pindi until the end of March 1909 and then set off for Gharial in the Muree Hills - which was done on foot. It was standard practice for both Government and Military to leave the Indian Plains during the 'hot season' and move to the Hill Districts, which were cooler and they would often spend up to seven months there.

I have a feeling that this photo was taken on the day the Battalion left Rawal Pindi for the hills.
