I think you must always bear in mind the potential age of the alleged gaunt restikes - perhaps struck as long as 35 years ago.

Interesting as that is not a common fake. The fake marks with the dot are all 15mm long. If yours is 11mm then it stands a good chance of being OK even with the full stop. This smaller mark is rare and generally only found on WW2 badges but occasionally appears on commercially sold ones thought to be earlier. I will see if any of mine have a full stop in them.

Luc, hastily added Dutch in Exile page as discussed yesterday in our emails:
http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/mak...aunt_dutch.htm so....you may have two good un's ......and an important one to have in the marks collection as only in legitimate production WW2 ??? 40-45 ?

These two are, I'm sure both OK, the County of London (sealed 25th Jun 1940) is 11mm and the Northumberland one is 12mm. A common fault in both seems to be that the top half of the "J" and the bottom half of the last "N" of London are very faintly struck!

Mike, it seems indeed that both my badges are ok, I'm very happy!
I will try to find out when they were used, if I recall well until 1947. |

The cap badges that were supposed to replace the Dutch in exile badge were designed from 1945-1946 and issued from late 1946/early 1947 depending on unit, see: http://www.hetdepot.com/baret-gespen.html

J R GAUNT - small QC on very narrow slider
Here is a very narrow slide marked J.R. GAUNT LONDON with shoulders widening to normal size attached to a small Queen's Crown.
Is it from the Royal Signals two part cap badge? Difficult to see how it would be attached through the cap or beret to the "Jimmy" below? |
