Angry VAT on your badges - Thanks Brexit

Now Mr Farage has got his way, you'll no doubt all be pleased to know you'll be charged VAT on any badges purchased from the EU and brought into the UK:

Not sure of the full implications yet, but see extract from the PO:

"When receiving goods from abroad, recipients may have to pay VAT and duties. The VAT and duties will be applied depending on the type and value of the goods. For gifts over £39 and goods over £135, Royal Mail may collect the VAT and customs duties on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). from the recipient prior to delivery. Letters, postcards and documents are usually exempt."

Oh, and happy new year....

Buy from USA - Pay ridiculous postage charges. (and according to eBay listings today "+ 20% VAT will apply").

Buy from UK Auctions - Pay VAT , Buyer Commission , High postal charges.

Buy from EU - Possibly pay VAT depending on value of item.

If you are unhappy with any of the above you have a choice - Buy or not ?

Fair enough but I'll wait to see "the full implications" and then I'll decide if I am willing to pay extra for items I am after , as I presently do with auction sales.

Royal Mail will also charge a ridiculous handling fee as well.

Has eBay UK put an automatic setting for overseas listings ?

When 'searching' I have seen the "+ 20% VAT will apply" but when clicking on the item it is not mentioned in the listing.

Also , the Royal Mail article quoted states :

"For gifts over £39 and goods over £135, Royal Mail may collect the VAT and customs duties on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs"

So will badges be classified as 'gifts' or 'goods' ?

As with a lot of the Brexit rhetoric it may be wise to wait and see what actually happens rather than automatically assume the worst.

This is from the eBay UK website :

Starting 1 January 2021, eBay is required to collect VAT on certain orders delivered to UK addresses:
  • Orders up to £135 sent from outside the UK

A very small price to pay to be free from the shackles of a system set up with the best of intentions but hijacked by the federalists.
A failed experiment.

And yes, a truly happy new year!

As with all these votes, you shouldn't moan about those who did vote but those who didn't and then moan they didn't get what they wanted.
