Mystery uniform, could this be Australian?
I have posted this elsewhere but so far to no avail. Someone has suggested the cap badge might be 1st Australian Lt Horse badge 1897/1903 worn by 3rd Australian Lt Horse up to 1912. The problem is he wears a trumpeter’s badge of a type worn only by engineer and artillery units and a grenade over his trade badge and chevrons, his aiguillette may be part of the regimental uniform but equally could signify a bandsman, I would date it circa 1906/12 and he appears to wear a 3 bar QSA, does anyone have any ideas if this is an Australian unit and if so which,
With thanks in anticipation, so far everyone is stumped |

....it looks very "New South Wales Lancers" to me? The NCO Arm badge has the shape..... the braided lace & aiglets could be saying "Band".... especially with the facing colour (you can see the silver lace on what appears to be white or yellow facings?)

.... best I can do with the Cap, collar and Arm badges. So maybe NOT the NSWLcrs? The Collars are fusils by the look?

Mystery uniform
I’m pleased to report that this has been identified elsewhere on the forum as Cambridge University Rifle Volunteers probably with prior service in RE, probably a member of their permanent staff, the uniform and badge fit in every way with an explanation for the seemingly contradictory arm and collar badges, uniform grey with silver lace and very pale light blue facings
