62nd Glengarry (?)
Good morning everyone, I have recently acquired the attached badge even though I can't find an illustration anywhere in the main sources. I already have a Maltese cross 62nd and a standard crown/garter with 62 in the centre but this one is intriguing me. I vaguely remember something about it possibly being a band item but would be grateful for any thoughts on the matter. The construction seems firm and good and the manufacturer's lustre on the reverse seems genuine. Over to you and thanks in anticipation of your comments. David.

Have been collecting to the Wiltshire regiment for nearly 5o years , I did inform the Auctioneer that this and other items were described incorrectly Nothing to do with the 62nd regiment and nothing to do with the band As the auctioneer was informed this is the 62nd Bengal native infantry as information supplied by the National Army museum -Indian specialist These plate come as cast and die struct
Had both but as said Nothing to do with the 62nd Think you were sold a pig in a poke as the auctioneer knew what it was If you are interested can post 99th/62nd/Wiltshire items or P.M me Auction Antony Cribb lot 239 Last edited by 49lassiepen; 10-04-22 at 12:51 PM. |

62nd Glengarry(?)
Thanks very much for the quick reply and for the valued comments. Disappointed with the contents, though, as the badge seems of typical British glengarry construction. Currently on its way back to Mr Cribb.

How long has this auction house existed? I see they are located in Newbury near SASS Auctions-any link between them? Regards, Paul.

Wardog, Think relatively new but Dixon refers to him as 'Tony' so may have known him in previous positions. According to 49Lassiepen and others, ACL was advised that at least two of the items in the last sale were not as described and he still entered them in the auction.

Disappointed to hear you got this from Antony Cribb Auctions as I've had some really good stuff from him over the years. BUT! I had to point out to him some errors on an item he was selling a couple of years ago, and he basically stated I was correct, but still sold it anyway!!!!

Another that I pointed out was incorrect was lot 231 He had it as 1st Salisbury R V C I sent him photo of 3 waist belt clasps to the 1st R V C and the Salisbury coat of arms as worn on the pouch plates [2 of these ] The coat of arms on lot 231 was the 5th company ,Devises sent photos of the 3 waist belt clasps that I have to Devises If he did not believe all the evidence sent ,then a quick google of the coat of arms of both towns would have proven this Still sold this lot with wrong description
David Also raised concerns about another item ,via phone call he sold it any way Last edited by 49lassiepen; 11-04-22 at 10:52 AM. |

As I said, disappointing.
Will be very wary in future of any items he sells now. |

Thanks for the reply Joner. Searching I see mention of Abingdon and I'm wondering if the move to Newbury has happened within the last 5 years. Surprised as I live in the area and have not heard of them before. Regards, Paul.
