WWII RAF Regiment cloth shoulder title
Does anyone know where I can get hold of an original RAF Regt. cloth shoulder title for battledress c. 1940s/50s?
I know what they should look like but not where to get one. All the ones I've seen online are modern ones purporting to be originals. Simon |

RAF s/title
I don't think the RAF wore shoulder titles during WWII. Maybe someone will confound me with photographic evidence, but I think they were worn postwar.

Well.. just after the war at least. My dad was in the RAF Regiment from 1945 and I'm sure he had them in some of the photos I've seen.

RAF titles
Having researched this subject further, the shoulder titles were introduced by AMO/466 in 1942 to be worn on all dress uniforms. I have not seen these worn on Battledress in any photos, maybe someone will find some and post them.

ref RAF Regt in ww2
you can always try these chaps: www.soldierblue.homestead.com
Most of the guys in it are ex raf regiment! They should be able to point you in the right direction, or even advise you on obtaining their copies. Have you tried the raf regiment museum for info/photies, etc? Do a search and you should find it at raf honnington - it's no longer at catterick! hope this helps, tim w |

Hi all. Yes sonofacqms, a war-time photo does exist of an officer wearing the title of the RAF Regiment.
Cheers Jo Click on the photo to enlarge and see the title on the RAF officer on the left. http://www.rafregiment.net/images/oldqcs.jpg

RAF S/titles
Thanks everyone, having looked at Brian L. Davis book, I see the title being worn. I thought that someone would find evidence, that is what makes this forum so interesting. It is exactly what badge collecting has been needing for years, Congratulations Mike!

To sw63, the original thread starter, Your only hope of finding a pair or even one of the RAF Regiment shoulder flashes is to hunt the militaria shows and find a REPUTABLE dealer who may have them. Honington sells them but in fine officer like material (and officer like prices). I wish I'd bought a bunch from the stores when I was in!....Best regards, David J.....PS If the picture will load, The lads are in a mixture of BDs, shirtsleeve order, tunic and even combat jacket, the tea tasted the same!

Pardon my jumping in, but here are some pics of the embroidered and printed titles. I don't know if they're WW2 or postwar, however.

RAF Regt titles
The top one is identical to the pair I still have in my "Housewife" issued to me in 1959. I believe the lower one is for ORs and would date back to the formation of the Regt. in 1942. Regards, David J.
