The blue/grey badges began to be introduced in 1949, and over the next year or three were followed by anodized buttons and cap badges. Stocks of the dark blue badges continued for some time though, whilst brass buttons and badges continued to be produced after the 1953 crown change.
The colour of RAF uniforms haschanged twice since the war, becoming progressively bluer. Badges have followed suit until 1972 when a return was made to darker blue backings, although not as dark as wartime. In recent years a return to blue grey has once again been applied to eagles, although the manufacture is quite different to previous versions |

The inverted chevron was only applied to technical trades (Junior Technician) and was introduced for wear by RAF and cadets. It only lasted, I think, six years.

Sorry-meant to put JT-when was that period of use? Sadly I missed out on the periods of shoulder eagle use and No.1 dress belt- but glad to have missed the cap badge in use at the moment. Regards, Paul.
Just had a look on wiki which states 1950-1964 for the JT insignia. Last edited by wardog; 18-05-13 at 02:59 PM. |
