KOSB Badge with Slider
Got this one today. It has obviously had a bad repair job to the slider. I can not see anywhere there has been lugs attached in the usual place. Would there have been a variation of this badge with a slider, possibly for a pagri or beret? The badge looks good to me and a good strike.
As always your opinions are greatly welcomed. Thanks, Bill

Just an uninformed thought - no sign of n/s lugs having been fitted?

Hi Leigh,
no, nothing at the bottom that I can see. Bill

Could it be for the officer's forage cap?

The forage cap was apparently only worn by the Adjutant and the badge was reduced size, silver plated and with a lug and blade.
Some posts on slidered KOSB badges in this thread https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...highlight=kosb Tim

Thanks Tim,
It's a normal sized cap badge. Interesting thread, so it could possibly be WW1 Foreign Service Helmet badge Bill

I would also say pre-war FSH.

My gut feeling is the quality of this badge is too poor to be pre-WW1.
Whilst the dealer who contributed to that old thread is experienced sadly on more than one occasion he has shown himself to be both misinformed and untrustworthy. I no longer buy into the Dardanelles campaign story but I think wartime manufacture is entirely plausible or even probable. Of course FSH is a distinct possibility, however, there are examples of what are obviously later FN marked short slidered KSOB badges and as the highlighted and a couple other old threads show other Scots badges do appear with short sliders making FSH unlikely IMO. This conundrum is made even more difficult with this badge as the slider has been repaired/replaced. |

It might possibly have been for wear in the maroon beret in WW2 by 7th KOSB when in the airlanding role.

Just got this today and it seems appropriate to add it to this thread,
QVC badge to the KOSB with a slider for the pagri. Not had one before, not a keeper really as outside my area of interest, but are they scarce? regards

It is also entirely possible to wear this badge on the Glengarry as well, which I think more likely. CB

Unfortunately I can't find the thread/post I submitted some while ago.
Although not a fixed slider, as is the subject of this thread, I had a KOSB with hinged slider, that I obtained in a lot from the DNW's Gaunt Archive sales. There is a picture of it somewhere. It was authenticated as a genuine KOSB item by Hiram, (Borderer on this Forum), and probably issued as a Glengarry badge. Regards. Brian. |

Tim,
The badge on the initial post is not a forage cap badge, below are 3 images of a 1924 Birmingham Hallmarked forage cap badge, this style of badge was worn up until at least the mid 1930's. |

The badge is a pagri badge. I would not be overly concerned with the roughness of the back or the repair, below are two variations of KC helmet plate centres which have similar design to yours and would have been worn for a short period after 1902.
