French Forces in the Levant
A pair of insignia which turned up recently. From my initial research these appear to be French Levant Forces. Possibly WW2 era Vichy France in Lebanon.
The shoulder scroll translates to roughly "Litani" which would likely correspond to the Litani River and or river valley in Lebanon. It has the clips attached to the reverse in French style for removal from uniform. The collar tab in the French shape and style . To the best of my ability the symbol above the grenade looks be to the Arabic number 2. The granade leads me to believe this was possibly a Gendarm Force or Auxilliary Force Both items appear to have originally been a light blue colored material. They are now sun faded to a tan color. If anyone has any thoughts, corrections or additional information it would be appreciated Thanks

Jack,
I think your information is correct. I checked the arabic translation and it corresponds with your interpretation. The only question is what period the insignia is from but it certainly looks to have some age to it. It's a nice set of insignia, beautifully made. Paul |

Dont know if you noticed, but the clip attached to the backing has a maker's name on it..which might give a clue to when it was made/worn..
looks very nice, i must say |

Thanks for looking in. The word on the clip is “depose” which I believe Is French for registered. I always take this to mean patented.
