Default SAS EMBROIDERED CAP BADGE

Hello Bernard,

Sadly the badge you illustrate is a modern fake.

The cast brass Egyptian made badge was issued in the Summer of 1943, all ranks were issued with one but only one. There were no spares if lost.

There are several patterns of WW2 SAS cap badges. The only book that shows them all is Some Talk of Private Armies by Len Whittaker. Now out of print but you may find a copy with specialist book sellers or eBay.

Regards...

Hello Bernard,
If you want , I will send you a scan of the SAS page of this book.
I think that Bernard was speaking of the "modern" brass badge with slider that we can find everywhere.
Best regards .. Herve

hi,
Thank you for your answers.
With this fake, today I learned something. Fortunately this badge is not for me. I've seen something similar with french wings.
For the metal badge, I wanted to know the date of the first.
Hervé, thank you for the scan. Can you send it to me on the french forum.
Best regards
Bernard

The different patterns of ww2 cloth sas badges is huge and the ones in STOPA are just some, you can broadly describe them in an early pattern 41_43 which have feathers that are wider and not pressed to the handle of the sword/dagger and the 1944 pattern later ones. Unbelievable for such a small unit, same for wings. Cheers, JB
