3rd SAS Shoulder Title
I would appreciate comment and opinion regarding the originality, or otherwise, of this 3rd SAS Shoulder Title. It is part of a small grouping from France. Many thanks, Clive.

3rd SAS title
Hi Clive,
I am afraid that 3rd SAS title is no good. It is a common reproduction. What is wrong with this one: colours, background material too rough, lettering and dots between letters. See picture of a good one. 3rd SAS title have a particular bright blue colour in the lettering. Sometimes you can find a version without '3rd' as worn by SAS Brigade HQ. Please compare the two titles and remember the look of the good one. Cheers, Joha Last edited by johanwiegman; 22-11-13 at 08:15 PM. |

Many thanks for the comments, not entirely unexpected. I bought this Title and the other things from a French seller, bulldogvet I think was his user name, in May 2004. He sold a mixture of the good and the bad, usually the latter unfortunately. I will post the French Wings and the France Titles, maybe they have a chance? Regards, Clive.

The France titles are fine; one of the few British made titles that show horizontal stitching.

Thank you for the further comments. Glad that the France Titles are OK, any thoughts on the Wing, also what they represent? It is too bad that the seller, deliberately, or otherwise, mixed original and fake items together, I tend to believe that he knew what he was doing. Regards, Clive.

In my opinion the wings are genuine, but that design does not feature in the book - D-Day Paratroopers - British, Canadian and French by Jean Bouchery and Philippe Charbonnier published by Histoire & Collections. Free French insignia including pilots' and paratroopers' wings feature the Cross of Lorraine in the design. Mike

Thank you Mike, do you have thoughts as to what the Wings may be? I have looked at the few reference books I have and did not find it, but possibly they are Aviation related. Regards, Clive.

Hello,
Wings are French, they are genuine. They were not worn by parachutites. It is the general breast badge of the French air force. It's not scarce. Best regards Bernard |

Hello Clive,
The wings are just a general badge worn on the right part of the breast on the blue tunic by all members of the French Air Force ... not a qualification wings. The star meaning they are flying personnel. Hope this helps... Best regards .. Herve ... oups Bernard same time reply... ) Last edited by half12; 23-11-13 at 04:54 PM. |

Thank you for the comments regarding the Wing. Just wondering if it could have been worn by someone who served with the French SAS? This is a very frustrating grouping, most items seem genuine, but the 3rd SAS Title seemingly not! Now I am retired I have to time to look back on some of the things I bought, some are pleasant surprises and others clearly not. Regards, Clive.

I hope you did not pay too much. Seller could certainly tell a good 3rd SAS title from a reproduction. Cheers, Johan |

It seems that I did Johan. For a while I trusted the fellow, but after a few transactions I was never entirely content about I stopped buying from him. A friend of his I knew fairly well always spoke well of him, so this gave some reassurance, but clearly misplaced. Regards, Clive.

Hello,
The French SAS did not wear this badge. SAS may have this badge before it is paratrooper (flying mechanic, radio ....) Best regards |
