Default 1st Armd Regt

Would welcome comments about authenticity of these badges.
The L/H badge is chrome and appears to be sandcast, rather rough at back
The R/H badge is die-struck, appears to be wm that has been fired!

Do you have pics of the back of these badges?

Sorry, no. I use a flatbed scanner and anything standing proud of the platen will be blurred.

I doubt fakes of these badge exist however looking at the back is the best way to detect fakes. Makes it very difficult to say if a badge is a fake with any certainty if there is no picture of the back available.

No comment to make on the badges, but on the scanning point, you should be able to use a flatbed scanner to produce in-focus images of the back of a badge without any problems (assuming it has a lid). I have a relatively elderly Agfa Snapscan 1212U A4 flatbed scanner & have used it thus on numerous occasions - the only hassle is getting the b*ggers to 'stand up'! I usually sit them on the glass with the lugs parallel to the hinge (with a slider I find perpendicular to the hinge works best for some reason) & then close the lid gently on top, which normally levels the badge up so it's sitting on the lugs (or slider) with the rear face of the badge now parallel to the glass. If it refuses to play the game, then a bit of manipulation with a pencil or similar thin object (with the lid still closed) usually does the trick.

Thanks for the tip, Kevin. Tried it out, but still the only focussed part of the badge are the lugs, which rest on the glass. The body of the badge, being several mm proud of the glass are exceedingly blurred. My scanner is a Canon Pixma MP250 (3-in-one).

That's a shame - worth a try, though! I must admit, I was a little surprised when it worked on mine, the first time I tried it...
