Default Pale Brass or White Metal Sliders (Shanks)

In a number of badge auctions recently, I have noticed a few badges with FN B’Ham marks on very pale brass – white-metal looking sliders. The slider shape is what you would expect an FN slider to be, but they all seem to have a pristine white-metalish appearance which is very unusual. They have turned up across a number of auctioneers that specialize in military items and not just the same auctioneer.

I have picked up a couple in the odd badge lot and show one below for any comments.

For comparison I show two badges of the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry which both conform to the image 1428 in KK. The one in my collection is on the left and has what I believe to be an unmarked FN slider. The one bought at auction on the right has the very pale FN marked slider. Unfortunately the poor light doesn't show how white it is in the photographs.

The slider being pristine is also very very slightly bowed where the mm has been punched. The front of the badge has some slight polish to the prominent highlights indicating that it has been worn - perhaps.

Quite strange to me, but what do others think about the slider?

Cheers
Mark

You can see quite clearly the difference in colour in both sliders. I have no idea why though, it seems genuine though.

Yes, I can see the difference between the slider metal / colours.
In my opinion one of them (the slider) was made yesterday!

Both genuine.

I’ve seen the WM slider on several FN badges, they can appear almost chromed. Another of FN’s peculiarities methinks, sadly I can offer no other explanation.

Whilst several original FN dies have been reused I do not suspect these or their sliders are spurious.

Thank you gentlemen for your thoughts.

Like KLR I thought initially that there was some fakery going on, but I've now seen quite a few on badges that could have only come from FN dies that I do have to agree with Luke - or at least my fears have been allayed by his similar observations.

Cheers

I too have a WM slider on one of my badges somewhere. No explanation that I know of.

Thanks CB.
Another white-metal slider on an Essex Regiment badge that I recently acquired. Clearly an FN shape to it again. Round sweat holes behind the tablet/sphinx and scroll.
