Default Astrallian Badges

Got these awhile back. The rising sun badge is nicely marked. I dont know much about these but assume they are WW1 vintage?

Smile Aussie Badges

G'day Vix

I have had a look at your 2 badges, the rising sun has Stokes and Son Melbourne mark and is a WW2 issue, the WW1 Stokes has just Stokes and Son, I have a family Stokes rising sun. Also Cossum lists the Stokes and Son Melbourne as being a WW2 issue.

The Medical Corps badge is a 1930 to 42 Militia issue, it has no void at the base of the badge where as the 1912 to 1918 issue has a void at the bottom of the badge as seen in the relevant Cossum books. The earlier 1900 to 1912 issue is different and has a voided + instead of a snake and staff.

The Medical Corps badge would not have been worn during WW2 as ALL Aussie troops wore a rising sun badge.

I hope that this helps.

Regards

Phil.
