About 1985. It's a modern reproduction.

What indications tell you that it is a reproduction?

Agreed, without a doubt a modern fake.

But in my opinion likely far more recent than 1985 however... more like 2015.

I'm splitting the difference, 1995.

The construction and the style of slider suggests that it's modern.

That red finish looks like some kind of heat treatment for aging purposes.

You might have dug up a dodgy dealers artificial ageing flowerbed.

Definitely wasn’t there long. If you walk the route the owner may come back to collect it!

Perhaps put it back where it was found!

The slider was what I thought to be bent so I straitened it but now realise it was supposed to be bent. Along with this find we also dug several bullet casings .303s and a live 9mm so if this is someone aging a cap badge to gain a quid why is he burying live rounds🤔

Hi Jamie it’s an odd one it certainly has all the indicators that it’s a repro but badge collecting is not an exact science though. A genuine SR badge is common and not worth much in monetary terms but just enjoy it as a find.
