Default 2nd Bn, Seaforth Highlanders, 1882-87 badge?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and am mainly interested in medal collecting, so please forgive me if I ask obvious questions until I get the hang of things.

I like to display medals with the recipient's badge and have an opening question: What badge would someone serving in the 2nd Bn, Seaforth Highlanders, (formerly the 78th Highlanders) have worn between 1882-87?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Skip,
Welcome to the Forum.
Seaforth Highlanders wore the stag's head badge with "Cuidich'n Righ" scroll from 1881.
Cheers, John

Default 2nd Bn, Seaforth Highlanders, 1882-87 badge?

Many thanks John, I wasn't sure whether the individual battalions were still wearing their own glengarry badges during this period as neither returned to the UK for a few years after 1881 due to further service in India (in the case of the 2nd Bn) and service in Aden then South Africa in the case of the 1st Bn. Kilping and King doesn't specify as far as I can see.

Appreciate the reply. All the best,

Thanks John.

The problem I'm having is understanding which version of this badge the Seaforths wore in 1882, i.e. just after the reforms that changed the 72nd Highlanders into the regiment's 1st Battalion and the 78th into the 2nd. Looking online there's quite a few versions of this badge - I believe from K&K that in 1882 it would have been white metal, but I'm unclear as to the alignment of "CUIDICH'N RIGH" in the scroll at this time. In one version the "H" is central and in another it's the apostrophe between the "H" and the "N".

I would like to ensure the badge I mount next to the recipient's medal is the correct version - Can anyone advise for certain?

Thanks in advance,

Can't help about which one is correct but here is a thread about WW1 badge which appears to be the second version.

Seaforth Highlanders WW1 Cap Badge opinions please???

Thanks Mike - that thread decided it for me and I've found a suitable badge for sale at a reputable dealer whose description matches the opinions here. That's good enough for me!

Appreciate all the replies and will no doubt be asking other such questions as I continue to mount the medals I have.
