I bought the Lancers badge many years ago as a space filler and i thought it unlikely even then that a chromed badge could be original. Why then is it maker marked?
Is the enamelled grenade badge original? If not, it is certainly very well made. The top lug is missing and has been replaced with an araldite fixing to avoid heat damage to the enamel.
Thanks

27th looks to be the flat back Firmin variant. It has the strengthening bars to the top of the lances and there should be a rectangular blow hole behind the slider for the elephant’s head.

Cheers……John

Thanks for the info on the 27th badge, can hardly believe that my space filler might be genuine. Can anyone tell me why and when Firmin made a chromed badge when the standard one was bi-metal?
Is the grenade badge also genuine? i would have been very expensive to make a repro as good as this.
I am willing to consider offers for these two badges, and a number of other territorials that I collected years ago, as long as I can be certain that they are not restrikes.

The grenade is interwar Legion of Frontiersman badge. They were a civilian organisation with a penchant for dressing up.

I agree the 27L badge appears to be a genuine other ranks example. However, as to the chrome plating, I would suggest this is a post-factory embellishment. Thus, it was likely applied to fundamentally repurpose the cap badge by the owner into a sweetheart or mufti badge.

Best,

Marcus

Thanks to all. Will seek opinions of some other TA badges at a later date.
