Default Presumed Trade badge

Picked this up today at the car boot. About 30mm wide and the same high. Nicely made. Searched through my books and trawled the net but can't find anything like it. I'll be pleased to receive any help.

Thank you very much - never would have guessed police. Wonder if you can tell me what era and if it's worth anything?
