RCAF Wings Original or Copy?
I am most grateful for the opinion of the forum.
Are these wings originals or fakes? If real approximately what period, WW2? Many thanks, Keith |

Look good. Many of these wings were made and issued post Second World War, so dating is a bit problematic.

Before 1947, if I may ask? Regards, Dominique |

Certain patterns were manufactured until the mid-50's when the qc patterns replaced them.

Would you be kind enough to enlighten me? Thank you, Dominque |

Sorry, not sure what you are asking? There were sealed patterns authorized by the RCAF and these were continued until replaced by qc patterns. Warren Carroll's Eagles Recalled has more detail as to the specific type. I think he mentions that the straight wing 1943 pattern were the ones.

Straight wing patterns.
Please forgive my broken English...
If I don't get myself wrong, the straight pattern wings, (at the difference of the other patterns), were manufactured & issued till the mid 50's? Thank you for your repeated assistance, Dominique |

Hi Dominique, Yes the straight wing pattern were made until then, and worn even longer. (When the tailor shop at the base here closed there were bundles of kc straight wings. That was in the 1980's.)

It is believed that those who qualified for their wings during the war, continued to wear the single wing postwar, however a revision in dress regulations in 1947 saw the dual wings become the official pattern, with a provision written in for those who had already qualified.

I have CF first pattern tunic with the kc Air Gunner wings dated 1978. The fellow was a major who retired out circa 1980-82.

Dating wings.
Yes the straight wing pattern were made until then, and worn even longer.
Shall we then assume that only the condition of the wings determines the time frame? -Up: wartime -Below : post war. Simple, isn't it? BR, Dominique |

I will defer to Mike and other wing collectors, but I don't know if it is that simple. Note that the top wing and botton wing are completely different embroidery patterns. Details of the crown are significantly different.

Wartime/Postwar.
Much interesting...
So here we have two wings of the same pattern. Top one: WW2 time frame. Bottom : Post war vintage. Easy! Regards, Dominique |
