Please dont shoot the messenger but I sadly I once knew the gentleman responsible for manufacturing these. 99 percent of these bugles are bad.
The original examples that I have in my collection are either unmarked with a dated removable mouth piece in solid silver or silver plate, or they have the regimental badge engraved on the body of the bugle/trumphet. I am very sure that at some time some original bugles must of been made up like this, they are just very hard to identify with all the fakes. I`d need better photo to make a judgement, I see you have two examples there?

If its both examples for 15 pounds I`d buy them. People who own pubs put them up for decoration.
What is the other example you havent shown a photo of? That one could be alright.

JP,
Its not WW1 in date either, look at the crown on the badge its clearly QC so post 1953. Best to left alone I think, unless you really like it but its certainly not WW1. Regards, Luke Last edited by Luke H; 21-05-08 at 12:33 PM. Reason: missed the all important NOT |

If I`m not mistaken I think someone told me the bugles are made in India and then badges added by a chap in the UKK, someone who I had the misfortune in knowing many years ago.
Sadly they arent for me as the mouth pieces are missing.

the point with these copper and brass bugles is they never badged them but they did use their regiment cords on them only so buyer beware.

The same very sad person even soldered plaques onto them with impressed names of famous buglars from various British line regiments killed during WW1. He stopped messing with them a number of years ago.

This bugle below belonged to a member of the 112th Battalion and was also part of the band. Although I have seen badges on these things I was never sure when they were applied so let them be. I have never seen them in any period photos I have.

A good friend of mine, a WW2 veteran and an officer from the 17th Hussars went to Italy on a holiday in the late 80's. He came back from his holiday with a bugle, similar to the one in the image, with king's crown Ontario Regiment badge. After some enquires to the Ontario Regiment, it was established that it was not a souvenir of the unit that had somehow been forgotten in Italy.

The market was at one time flooded with bugles with a large 23rd Foot grenade badge soldered on the front. Searching ebay at the time these could be found for sale around the world, hong kong, france, canada etc etc. That particular type seems to have gone out of production, and they now appear to have moved on to Scottish varieties.

I think a lot of people do not realize the skill level of some of these Pakistan and Indian metalworkers. you could give these guys an old tree limb and piece of metal bedstead and they will turn it into a perfect 303 rifle, with the most basic of tools. They are the absolute master craftsman.
