Identification help please
Hi, I'm new to the forum.
I want to find out more about my grandmother's 2nd husbands time in the forces. I know very little - as he would not (could not) talk about it. He was born in a small village in Pembrokeshire West Wales1913 and passed away in 1997. I have these photographs of him. I know he served in Burma and had the Burma Star among his medals. Any help greatly appreciated. |

From the photographs you show, I would think Royal Marines.
As you are a member of his family and you have his date of death, getting a copy of his service papers will not be an issue, although, you will need to provide the MOD with proof, so his death certificate and a fee is normally payable, followed by an all time consuming wait, which is frustrating, but, certainly very fruitful. Agreed, RM - an open question - what are the shoulder titles please, is there wording on them?

I would guess that the titles are the RM Cash's tapes.

Thanks, I just wasn't sure that there was actually lettering on them.

I agree, Royal Marines and probably taken in India or Ceylon before service in Burma.

I couldn't detect any lettering on those shoulder titles either. That's why I suggested that Mel posted on here as I thought it may be some particular RM unit. Hwyl, Kevin |

It looks rather like an arc with a darker border as if a strip of cloth has been sewn over the lettering of the title.
An uncle was in the RM in Burma, unfortunately the only photo I have of him shows shirt order sans any insignia. |

A particular unit's been tentatively suggested to me as an unevidenced possibility, hopefully the person with the knowledge will post.
