Default South Middlesex Volunteer Rifles

I recently purchased a Victorian South Middlesex Volunteer Rifles cap badge together with what was described as its matching collar badge. Both badges are silver plated . I have sifted through the various reference works that I have ( Kipling and King etc.) and can find no reference to this unit, let alone a picture of the badge( s).
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find out about the unit and to confirm that the collar does tie in with the cap badge ?
Many thanks
Mike

I have one of these, the badge on the right is the field service cap badge.

Mike.

Hopefully this may help you:

South Middlesex Rifle Volunteers were the 2nd Middlesex Rifle Volunteers, formed 14th October 1859.
The cap badge you show can be found with both QVC and KC. I have examples in white metal, blackened brass and brass.
The collar badge is based on a founder member of the unit, Viscount Ranelagh’s crest and described as ‘a dexter arm embowed in armour and grasping a dart’ and were worn as facing pairs.
1st April 1908 they became the 10th Battalion Middlesex Regiment.

If you wish, have a look through my Middlesex RV album, (which I must admit needs updating) on the link below and you will find the examples therein.

Regards.

Agreed, there are quite a few there missing from my own Middlesex RV collection.
