Unknown Combined Ops Patch
Had this one a while now, it certainly isn't WWII but wondered if it is a genuine issue modernish patch or just a repro?
thanks Paul

Hi Paul
I started a thread on post war combined ops specimens. Without having it in hand, yours looks like a mid 1950's era CO formation sign. See thread for more details of use during the 50's. Like the ones shown in the thread they are not exact, which I guess when compared to WWII variations they look like ugly ducklings! Its too well made to be a repro re detail, silk and reverse bobbin thread(Black?),paste backed(?)on felt. I think some manufacturing knowledge would be required to produce this example. Repro's tend to use polyester thread and are well made and detailed. https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...light=commando Phill |

Thanks Phil
I had seen the post referred to but this example seems quite different. One of the strange hallmarks of this pattern is the single black chain stitch that runs under the gun barrel and down one side of the anchor. The only thing I'm convinced of is that its not WW2 so have taken it out of my WW2 commando displays! Paul

Hi Paul
In my collection I like showing a "chronology" of the same "patch", it perpetuates the legacy of units, so all is not lost, who knows you might end up collecting legit post war combined ops late 40's-60's variations(?). I think its sometimes confusing when some manufacturers used part of their WWII construction process into the 50's. Phill |
