Default London Regiment?

I cannot remember if I have posted this photograph before but if I have I don't think that they were ever positively identified.

They are wearing black buttons so they are a rifle battalion or regiment. They appear to be wearing numbered shoulder titles with a separate numeral. The numeral appears to be the number 2 or possibly 5. The title appears to read Ld except that the d is a capital D but half the size of the L.

The photograph was taken by a photographer from Shipton in Hampshire.

The cap badge worn by the sergeant may be a G.S. button.

Any thoughts are welcome.

The Sgt looks to be wearing a strung bugle cap badge. I could see it as a Cheshire's collar badge too though.
The buttons look like strung bugle with crown above.
The s/t on the right hand kneeling man could be a "7" or even a grenade )which doesn't fit with the black buttons) rather than a 2 or 5?
The kneeling man on the left - "5" as a s/t?

I am wondering if the shoulder title is an unofficial one. The location of the photographer at Shipton near Tidworth suggests one of the 3rd line territorial regiments that were there in late 1915 early 1916. The shoulder title could be made up of two numerals such as 2 over 15 to represent 2/15th London Regiment or something similar.

It still looks like 2 over Ld to me though.

Agreed (I wasn't able to open the 4th image, checked it on another means).
Nothing similar in Westlake.

Is that a double line of braid along the shoulder strap in image 4?

The man standing, right - is that writing on the photo by his head or a marking on the tent?

Definitely a strange S/T, the closest in appearance that I can find in Westlake is the one piece LF worn with a grenade above. That of course does not fit in with the black hunting horn buttons.

There is nothing on the tent, only a mark on the photograph. In other photographs of this type that I have in my collection, there is often a kit bag or some other unit marked item knocking about in the background.

There is no braid on any of the epaulettes.

Excellent, thank you for the positive identification. Can you please post a picture of your shoulder title?
