Vth INNISKILLING DRAGOON GUARDS
I have this slightly smaller VDG badge which is lug and tang so probably WW1 or earlier when the VDG wore the horse badge? Was this badge used by officers as a FSC badge while the horse badge was worn as this design did not officially come in till c1936 I understand? Denis

The officers wore this design well before WW1 whilst the ORs wore the horse design. The ORs version was sealed in 1929. Alan |

Thank you for your reply Alan. I have a horse officers badge but had to wait a long time before I found it. Was the silver VDG badge the more commonly worn one?

All the photos I have seen of 5th DG officers both pre and during WW1 have the officers wearing the VDG badge. Alan |

Alan,
Many thanks for info, that would explain the scarcity of the horse badge! Interesting that both early examples I have are slightly smaller than the post 1929 version. Denis |

Denis can 8 ask what you mean by the horse badge, is it the standard round 5DG one?

I have a lovely set of Officers collar badges by J&Co, would love to come across a matching cap badge at some stage.

Hi Ian
Your officers J&Co collars are super - as Alan says, the VDG badge was mainly worn and hence the scarcity of the officers horse badge and the price it commands. Denis |
