Re your British Army - Badges in Films and Television album... if you aren't already aware, I thought you might be interested in the attached link to an episode of Steptoe & Son ('Pilgrim's Progress' - series 4, episode 7), in which Albert and Harold embark upon a trip to the WWI battlefields of France.

We see Albert in the opening scene donning his Royal Fusiliers service dress and trench cap, in which he wears Churchill Fig.190 as the cap badge (decent-ish shot of cap and badge in closing credits). Div badges too, though how historically accurate any of it is is open to discussion.

Many thanks. I remember seeing the original episode in 1965 and many repeats and always thought (despite his lack of stature) that it was Grenadier Guards!

Magnificent, I used to love Steptoe, still do!! There was one episode when he said he was in the Guards and another when they were moving a piano into a posh guy's flat & he asked them to remove their boots and put on these pointed Turkish slippers to which Albert replied " I fought the Turks in Gallipoli and they weren't wearing these bleedin things" classic stuff, cheers JT

Something very special about the Galton & Simpson collaboration. One of my favourite 'Hancock's Half Hour' episodes being 'The Reunion Party' where Hancock decides to throw a bash for his old Army pals. As you might expect, things don't go quite according to plan.

Clive Dunn puts in an appearance in this one; pre-Dad's Army, of course.

Hancock [recounting supposed acts of wartime bravery to Sid James]: "Only one thing for it; hand grenade. We pulled the pin out with our teeth. Front forward 'chickadee-slitch!' Threw 'em. What an explosion right on their ammo dump. I've still got a piece of metal inside me today.

Sid: You have?

Hancock: I swallowed the pin.

Your album is brilliant! Thanks for posting it! Many of the programs mentioned never made it to the the States, but I couldn't help remembering favorites growing up, such as "The Bridge on the River Kwai" and "The Great Escape." They must have had badges in them. What about current films set during wartime, eg. "Dunkirk" and "Darkest Hour"? Great topic!
