Hi Terry, the J. F. Gaunt mark does raise concerns. One instantly thinks of fakes, this could explain why more seem to be appearing nowadays, while in the previous 40 years I only came across one. Maybe I was unlucky, best wishes Mike.

RAF Marked Armoured Car Badge
A friend in Canada has sent me images of two Armoured Car badges he has, for extra info. One is a well known silver metal badge with a '2' underneath, but the other is this one, clearly marked 'RAF' on the side. He suggests a collar badge, but I have never come across an Armoured Car badge anywhere that is marked 'RAF' on the face, not in collections, period photos or reference works.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Unfortunately I don't have a photo of the back. |

The more I look at my friends badge, which seems the same style as all the others on the thread, I am getting the feeling the 'RAF' has been applied later.
