Not a Guards Puggaree badge?
I have this badge and using the internet had identified it as a Coldstream Guards pugaree badge post 1953. A couple of members have said that this is an incorrect identification. Can anyone shed any light on this badge? I have attached 2 images, the first shows my badge and the other a web page showing the incorrect indentification and interestingly an enamelled version probably for officers or SNCO's. I look forward to your thoughts.

What site is that then ? Use the Forum search tool, some members have some cracking Coldstream Guards Pagri badges.

I have seen the other pagri badges, and for other regiments.
The web page I referred to is British Armed Forces and National Service (britisharmedforces.org). They have a vast array of badges in albums and is very interesting. |

Some of the legends on the badges shown on the site aren't exactly precise e.g. on the page you show in post no. 1 - "Welsh Guards Post 1902", and the badge shown without its red backing.

Regardless of the sites accuracy on other things, it is the only one i have found showing this badge ( and it's upgraded counterpart). And as yet no suggestions for what it may be if it is not as stated.

If you want to learn about Military badges, then this Forum is probably the best place to learn from. There are many Authors of Badges and other Military items on this Forum too. I have a lot to learn, but just a quick scan of that site, i have to say it isn't very good at all. I wonder where the person got some of their info from ? We all make mistakes no one is perfect, i would stick to this Forum.

That's very interesting, can I ask how you came to this deduction? The badge is not heavy cast whereas most of the ornamental parts on the horse bits are. Would you say this is still current?

The sites you refer too are not reliable, the badge you show as a Pagri/Pugaree Badge is not of the correct design. Not being equine minded it does however look like a horsebit but to be honest I think it’s a fake Paul |

I do love a good mystery. Everyday is a school day and I'm always happy to learn new things. I have access to some Guards horse bits, it may take me a few days but I should be able to confirm or disprove the horse bit theory. However if my memory serves me correct most still are carrying the incorrect crown think it may still be Queen Victoria's!
The problem with the internet is whether or not to believe what you read. Now that site has been discredited I shall not use it as gospel. |

This badge has featured in previous threads (no idea how to find them)
The concensus from memory was that it was a fake fantasy piece. regards
