Boer waistcoat
It;s a dull, covid evening so I thought I'd post this as a challenge. It's an image from a book, "Heroes of the Boer War" which is online for free viewing https://archive.org/details/heroesof...e/150/mode/2up
My challenge is to identify all the ?insignia on the waistcoat. The combination of units tells me this man fought on the Tugela in Dec-Jan 1900. Here's my attempt: Top row of pockets:? 2nd Row of Pockets:? Inniskilling Fusiliers ? ? Lancashire Fusiliers 3rd Row of prockets: Inniskilling Fusiliers W Yorks E Surrey ZARP Leicester Regt Dublin Fusiliers ? 4th row of pockets: ? ? Devons pip Borders York & Lancs ? bottom: SALH; OVS; ? |

Seems he got a lot from the Royal Irish Fusiliers.
Curiously it looks like an officers fur grenade centre judging by the shape of the flames and proportions. The ‘IF’ is an early shoulder title of theirs also, as too I think is the collar grenade right of centre. The coronet far right is another of their early collar badges. The grenade far left looks like RMA? I’d say the grenade collar left of centre is Inniskilling Fusiliers. There’s a KRRC badge bottom left. |
