Sawstonjohn

I've attached pictures of the front and back of mine, slider crimp mark and maker's name stamp look identical. Think this one cost approx £30 a couple of years ago.

I reckon its later than 1958 - could well be 1960s TA as most of the early Infantry regt badges were sealed in the mid 60s when the regular bns were wearing the bde badges. The RAnglian badge came into use in 1964 and I think that this was for the TA as well as the Regular bns.

Default Royla Norfolk Beret Badge ACF

I have one with an unmarked slider but otherwise looks identical to the SMITH & WRIGHT LTD version illustrated. I suspect that Royal Norfolk Beret badges might have been made for the Army Cadet Force long after the Regular Battalion went into the East Anglian Brigade etc.
Here are two more recent cloth ACF beret badges one embroidered on felt and another in gold thread embroidered or woven on silk:

I know for a fact that the 1st East Anglia was wearing its 'new' badge at least as early as the summer of 1959. Britannia was most definitely not in use for these regulars at that time.

K&K Vol 2 - GM beret version sealed 10 Jan 1950.
Anodised version is 21 Apr 1964.

The East Anglian Bde badge is 22 May 1958 and this was worn by the Regular Bns up to 1964. As the RANGLIAN badge was for TA and Regular Bns my betting is that the a/a Norfolks went to cadets and may have only have been worn by the TA for a very short period.

Just as a point of interest (and a slight digression from the main issue being discussed) the Royal Norfolk Regiment 'offically' changed to the 1st East Anglia Regiment at midnight on the 29th August 1959. However, the new East Anglia badge had been 'unofficially' issued (roughly) a few weeks prior to this, and was being worn by regulars in advance of the official change-over date.

Alan:- may I ask if the date you cite here (22nd May 1958) is the date the pattern was sealed?

Peter.
