Default 36th INF BN, CEF

When rummaging around at antique fairs here in England I sometimes come across postcard photos of WW1 CEF soldiers. Usually they are wearing the "General Service" insignia.

I thought this one was unusual in that the man on the right (as you look at it) has G/S cap and collar badges, buttons and probably S/T's. the man on the left has the same G/S insignia but with a 36th. inf. bn.(Hamilton, Ontario) cap badge. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about Canadian insignia but I didn't think the \battalion cap badges would normally be worn with G/S collar badges.

The postcard was printed in Ashford, Kent - presumably they were stationed in that area at the time.

Hi David, Nice photo. The GS badges were usually worn when other insignia was not available. Some battalions did not get their badges until they were overseas, or there were shortages.
