Default Question re BRCS Proficiency Medal Ribbons

I have been looking at various British Red Cross Society First Aid proficiency medals and notice that they seem to come with two different ribbons -both white with two red stripes. On one the stripes are closer together than the other where they are near the edges. I can find pictures and post if needed, but will have to search the net for some.

My question is what does the different ribbons mean, if anything?

Thanks,

Terry

Hi Terry,
Pretty sure the early Proficiency in Red Cross work Instituted: 1911 Discontinued: 1914 had the strips further apart - Details as follows:Members had to have three successive Red Cross first aid examinations, provided an interval of at least 12 months had elapsed between any two successive examinations, or one certificate in each of Red Cross first aid and Red Cross nursing, plus a third certificate in either, provided that an interval of at least 12 months had elapsed from the previous examination.
Additional bars were granted for each further Red Cross first aid or nursing certificate, provided that an interval of at least 12 months had elapsed between examinations.

And the later award: Proficiency badges Discontinued: 1968 had the strips closer together - Details as follows: Members had to have three successive Red Cross certificates in appropriate subjects, provided there had been an interval of at least 12 months between the dates of each certificate gained. Certificates acquired through other approved examining bodies could count towards the award. Each proficiency badge had the relevant subject on the ornamental brooch and a different ribbon for each subject.

Hope this helps.
Regards
Gary

I have had one of every type of BRCS badges and medals including Proficiency, Technical, Blood Transfusion, County badges, Merit and several Balkan War Medals.

I wrote an article on one of my Balkan War 1912-13 BRCS medal winners, Woislav Maximus Petrovich for the OMRS in December 2013 which is an interesting read.

All I have now are my County badges which I am currently disposing of via ebay.

regards
